"Here, We Do" Campaign Video Highlights Alumna Lourdes Duarte's Broadcast Journalism Career

College of Communication alumna Lourdes Duarte appears in a new video for DePaul University's "Here, We Do" campaign that highlights her journey to becoming an Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter and anchor for "WGN Evening News at 4 p.m."

Before Duarte stepped into the world of reporting, she was a communication student at DePaul who had never appeared in front of a camera. That all changed when she took a journalism class taught by Professor Bruce Evensen, where she learned some of the essential presentation skills that she still uses today as a reporter.

Aligning with DePaul's urban identity, Duarte believes it's her duty as a journalist to tell the stories that affect the city of Chicago. She says, "You get to help people who normally would not have a voice."

In a recent DePaul Newsline article about the "Here, We Do" campaign, Acting Dean Alexandra Murphy comments, "We want them [students] to know the kind of success Lourdes has experienced started with one journalism class at DePaul. The key points she highlights are the very things we believe make an education in the College of Communication unique — knowledgeable and caring faculty, cutting-edge coursework, and amazing opportunities for internships and employment given our location in the city of Chicago."

In addition to appearing in the "Here, We Do" campaign, Lourdes Duarte recently received the Distinguished Alumna Award at a special reception hosted by the Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence on April 25, 2019.
