DePaul University was recently named the Society of Professional Journalists Region 5 Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year for 2017.
This is the fourth time since 2011 that
DePaul SPJ has been chosen as the regional winner and a finalist for the national award. DePaul received the national Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year award in 2011 and 2013.
DePaul was recognized for its “Free Speech on Campus” event, discussions on diversity in the media and reporting on marginalized communities, and a workshop to prepare students for job interviews. DePaul SPJ members who attended journalism conferences broadcast on Periscope, blogged and live-tweeted on the SPJ DePaul website, and posted photos and journalism tips on social media.
SPJ Region 5 includes chapters in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.
