PBS correspondent John Yang joined Carol Marin onstage at DePaul University on February 20th, 2018. Yang shared stories of his 30-plus year career as a professional journalist with DePaul’s Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence, answering questions created by journalism students in the DePaul Advanced Reporting class. From his failures as a first-time Washington D.C.-based correspondent, to the time he spent based in the Middle East reporting on stories that continue to haunt him, to being one of the first openly gay reporters in the profession, Yang provided invaluable insights.
Prior to joining the nightly news broadcast at PBS in 2016, Yang worked as a Chicago-based correspondent for NBC News since 2007. While there, Yang reported on high-profile stories like the 2012 presidential campaign and the sex abuse trial of Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky. Before, his career with ABC News took him to Washington D.C. and then Jerusalem to cover the Middle East.
