As a bridge between the academic and professional world, the Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence brings the latest voices in journalism to campus to share insights from the industry. The center also honors two journalists each year for their contributions to the field.
Through these events and lectures, the center aims to provide students and professionals with relevant skills and insights to apply in their reporting.
The annual awards recognize two journalists whose work represents the highest principles of journalism. Dean Baquet (The New York Times) and Lourdes Duarte (WGN-TV) received awards in April 2019.
Hear from guest speakers from the Chicago Tribune, PBS NewsHour and more as they share what they've learned throughout their careers.
One of the center's newest initiatives, the
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Fellows program provides FOIA training for early-career journalists who work at small news organizations in the Midwest. This year's FOIA Fellows program took place on
February 28–March 1, 2019.
