Associate Professor Jason Martin has been elected head of the Law and Policy Division of the Association for Education for Journalism and Mass Communication.
Martin, who serves as chair of the Journalism Program at DePaul, will make budgeting and planning decisions for the division for 2017-18 through AEJMC’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.
“It’s a tremendous honor to serve as head of a division that draws together higher education, media law scholars, free speech advocates and the judicial branch of government,” Martin said. “Washington is a wonderful location for leveraging our membership’s contacts with the courts and globally important news organizations.”
Martin received his PhD from Indiana University after taking classes in the Maurer School of Law. His media law research background includes publications in outlets such as Communication Law and Policy, North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology, University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy, Journal of Media Law and Ethics and Defense Law Journal.
He previously served as the division’s Programming Chair, Research Chair, Clerk and Teaching Chair.
“There has rarely been a more important time for scholars and thinkers to come together in the service of generating ideas for protecting free speech and journalism,” Martin said. “I’m proud to continue leadership efforts for this important organization.”
