Four Student Projects Selected SPJ Finalists

Four DePaul University student online journalism projects have been named top-three finalists for Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region 5 Mark of Excellence Awards. Results will be announced by mid-April. If their work places first in regional, they move on to the SPJ National competition, where the work will be judged against all of the top entries in the nation. These entries cover work for the calendar year 2010. A list of finalists from DePaul is below:

Best Online Student Publication Finalists (Top Three)
  • The Red Line Project: Reporting for Converged Newsrooms (Spring 2010) and News Now (Fall 2010)
Online Feature Reporting Finalists (Top Three)
  • ChicagoStorytelling/News Now: Pilsen’s San Jose Obrero Mission (Fatimah Salami and Amber Tweedie) (Fall 2010)
Online Depth Reporting Finalists (Top Three)
  • Felony Franks (Ashley Kohler and Charlotte Eriksen) ChicagoStorytelling/Reporting for Converged Newsrooms (Spring 2010)
