Benjamin received his MA and PhD in Screen Cultures from Northwestern University and his BA in English and Film from the University of California, Berkeley. He teaches courses on media theory, film criticism, film aesthetics, film and television comedy, and digital media culture. His dissertation, “Gag Reflexes: Disgust, Spectacle, and Irony in Contemporary Film and TV Comedy," was completed in September 2022. He has prepared papers and lectures on anti-comedy, internet subcultures, fatsuit performances, black metal, and non-theatrical bike safety media, among other varied topics.
