The DePaulia and La DePaulia Win Big at the 2025 Peter Lisagor Awards

Adjunct faculty member Laurence Holmes also picks up a Best Sports Reporting Award

The DePaulia and LaDePaulia won impressive awards at this year's Peter Lisagor awards on May 9, 2025. The awards, held by the Chicago Headline Club, recognize excellence in Chicago journalism in honor of Lisagor's celebrated career.The DePaulia staff took home the award for Best Deadline Reporting. Lilly Keller, Lucia Preziosi, Rose O'Keeffe, Jake Cox, Claire Tweedie, Alyssa Salcedo, and Nupur Bosmiya were recognized for their comprehensive 17-day coverage of last spring's student encampment on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. Their reporting bested professional media outlets nominated in the same category. 

Reporters Cary Robbins and Alyssa N. Salcedo of La DePaulia won in the Best Feature Reporting category for their story “'It was our moment of blessing': Migrant family finds a home with the help of a DePaul professor." The piece chronicled College of Communication Professor Kelly Kessler and her family's relationship with a Venezuelan family starting a new life in Chicago.

Longtime journalism adjunct faculty member Laurence Holmes also won a Best Sports Reporting Award for his exclusive interview with Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson on WSCR-AM 670 The Score.
