Here are a few of our recent alumni and information on what they have been working on since graduating from the
Public Relations and Advertising program.
Robert completed a MA in PRAD from DePaul University in 2013 and is currently an account supervisor in the Edelman Corporate Employee Engagement Practice. DePaul challenged him to think creatively across various industries to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment while exposing him to the workings and leadership of agencies. This led Robert to not only receive a promotion into a leadership role but also make the switch from in-house to agency. Prior to his current role, he helped lead change and engagement efforts at Blue Cross Blue Shield regarding healthcare reform, a new company purpose and the acquisition of an additional Blue Cross Blue Shield plan. While at State Farm Insurance Companies, Robert increased engagement amongst non-traditional employees within a virtual customer support group.
Ellen graduated from the PRAD program in June 2013 and has worked at ZenithOptimedia since November 2012. She is now a Negotiator (media buyer) on the Local Activation team. Her primary job function is to negotiate ad space in Midwestern markets in television and radio for clients across automobile, food, retail, and financial industries. The PRAD program taught her how to be an effective communicator, who values building and maintaining relationships with clients and vendors. It also taught her that creative skills are necessary in every facet of advertising, including its more analytical side.
John is currently a Participation Strategist (Digital) at Arc Worldwide, the shopper marketing/brand activation agency of the Leo Burnett Group. His role focuses on the development and execution of clients' digital strategies. Previously, John served as a Digital Strategist at Ketchum, a global communications firm. A 2012 graduate of DePaul’s PRAD master’s program, John received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Journalism and Advertising. It was during his time in DePaul’s PRAD master’s program that John was introduced to Ketchum and his passion, digital marketing.
Carolyn is a Director of Public Relations for Hilton Worldwide at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown – a $272 million new-build, county-owned, 600-room Hilton hotel opening June 2016 and host hotel for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Previously, she worked for the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in the Chicago regional office where she specialized in digital communications and played a key role in FEMA’s social media response efforts during Hurricane Sandy. Carolyn is a highly-sought speaker and trainer on social media and digital integration for crisis communication. She continues to acquire a diverse skillset spanning public relations, advertising, marketing, corporate communication and digital engagement. Carolyn graduated with distinction in 2011 with her MA in Public Relations and Advertising.
Lauren is currently a Digital and Social Media Strategist at Crowley Webb, a Buffalo, New York-based agency. Her role focuses on leading the development and execution of clients' digital and social media strategies, as well as growing the emerging digital practice at the agency. Previously, Lauren worked for Social@Ogilvy, part of Ogilvy Public Relations in Chicago. Earning her MA in Advertising and Public Relations in June of 2013, Lauren credits the programs with providing her the networking opportunities and field knowledge needed to succeed in a quickly evolving industry.
Susan graduated from the MA in PRAD program in June of 2013. For the past six years, she has worked as VP of Marketing and Communications for Catamaran, and for the past year as Senior Vice President of Marketing for OptumRx, following its acquisition of Catamaran. She is responsible for growth and retention, product marketing and member marketing. Susan was originally educated as a nurse and joined a small company (First Health) as a nurse case manager. As the company grew, so did Susan’s responsibilities, leading her to a marketing role. She pursued the PRAD degree after spending over 20 years in marketing roles as her first marketing/communications degree. Her experience in the workplace, combined with her experience in the PRAD program, has enabled her to make a significant contribution to her company’s high growth trajectory.
Elizabeth completed her MA in Public Relations and Advertising with distinction in June 2012 and is currently a Senior Account Executive in the Corporate Affairs practice at Weber Shandwick, a leading global public relations firm in Chicago. Currently, her client work spans multiple industries including tech, food and beverage, aerospace, as well as financial and professional services. In addition to client work, Elizabeth also helps coordinate the internship program at Weber Shandwick. DePaul's graduate PRAD program not only helped Elizabeth land her full-time internship with Weber after just one term in the graduate program, but also strongly complemented and enriched her daily professional work and vice versa throughout her time at DePaul.
Tara is the Head of Institutional Marketing for UBS Asset Management Americas. Before joining UBS, Tara served as the Chief Marketing Officer for Sikich, Director of Marketing for Morningstar and the Head of Marketing and Communications, Americas for Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty. She earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts in public relations and advertising from DePaul University where she graduated in 2014 with a 4.0 GPA. Tara was named Outstanding PRAD graduate student upon graduation. Some of her favorite parts of the PRAD program included learning under the best NYC agencies during the NY Way program, conducting an independent study on Advertising to Americans with Disabilities and her Corporate Communications class.
Alesia completed her MA in Public Relations and Advertising in June 2014 and now works for The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. As communications specialist for OSU’s Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE), she is responsible for the center’s communications and public relations activities which include social media management, media relations, content development, and strategic communications. Alesia credits the PRAD graduate program with giving her the real-world experience she needed to truly understand public relations. Throughout the program, she had the opportunity to interact with high-level executives from Fortune 500 companies on many of her class projects. Alesia continues to interact with high-level professionals confidently because of her experiences at DePaul University and in Chicago.
La Toya completed her MA in Public Relations and Advertising in the summer of 2011. As a student in the PRAD program, La Toya learned the importance of networking and building relationships. Those professional relationships she established helped her to create opportunities for not just herself but for others as well. Currently, she works for De La Salle Institute as a special events manager in the Office of Advancement. In her role, she is responsible for creating and executing fundraising events to benefit the students of De La Salle Institute.
Sofia completed her MA in PR and Advertising in 2011. She worked for the Hispanic Division of Leo Burnett (Lapiz) for almost three years, where her experience having worked at Procter & Gamble Mexico and the skills she obtained in the PRAD program gave her the tools to successfully lead one of the biggest accounts for the agency. In May 2014, Sofia moved to Seattle where she is working for Cach Agency, a boutique creative agency, which she co-founded, that offers services to both the U.S. and Mexico markets.
Eryn leads the Sales Development efforts for the central region at Pandora Radio, where she develops multidimensional and strategic programs for some of the country's largest advertisers and managing a team of strategists. After graduating with her Master's degree in the spring of 2011, she joined Pandora, which was then a small private company that was just beginning to recognize success - not the large, public media machine it is today. Eryn previously worked in digital media planning and buying with Starcom and OMD. She loves staying connected with the Chicago ad community, graduates of DePaul, and is constantly trying to stay up to speed with the fast-growing world of digital media.
Melissa completed her MAin Public Relations and Advertising in 2011. Since graduation, she has utilized the brand management and strategic planning knowledge gained at DePaul to develop and launch multiple healthcare brands. She has launched a wide variety of brands from small start-ups like MetisMD, to blockbuster pharmaceutical drugs like Brintellix. She is currently an Account Supervisor at the prestigious Chicago-based healthcare advertising agency, Abelson Taylor. Melissa is charged with managing client relationships and developing strategically sound marketing solutions to help her clients move the needle.
Drew graduated from the PRAD program in 2012. He currently works with software and product development for Reverb.com and most specifically Reverblessons.com, a marketplace that connects students and instructors. The PRAD program prepared Drew for the job market by not only providing relevant job skills and experience, but by also providing a great network of some very smart and talented students and professors. The program also allowed him to cater to a specific direction that he wanted to take his career with there being a good balance of business oriented classes as well as creative development classes.
Angela completed her MA in Public Relations and Advertising in 2012. While completing her degree, she worked for ZenithOptimedia gaining valuable experience in research and analytics for her client, Oracle. After graduating from DePaul with a firm grasp of how to implement "big picture" ideas at smaller start-up companies, Angela left Zenith for a job at the bright and upcoming Brand Networks as an Account Manager specializing in Analytics. Angela is a certified yoga teacher and an expert in Social Media.
Patrick is a proud 2014 graduate with distinction of DePaul’s Public Relations and Advertising master’s degree program. He is the Manager of Media Relations at Pace Suburban Bus in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Patrick also provides public relations services for Storyboard Marketing, a boutique, local PR firm founded by a fellow graduate of the PRAD program. Patrick was a journalism major in his undergrad studies at Louisiana State University and sought to shore up his formal training in public relations while learning about current best practices in the field. His experience at DePaul helped him to become a more strategic communicator and provided the flexibility for him to tailor his studies in key areas of interest and specialization, such as social media and corporate communication.
Nathaly Gamino graduated from DePaul in 2011 with a major in Public Relations and Advertising and a double minor in Latino Media & Communication and Theatre Studies. Since her graduation she has gained experience in both the PR and advertising worlds working at two of Chicago’s top multicultural agencies, Flowers Communications Group and Leo Burnett’s Lapiz. Her experience includes work on brands such as MillerCoors, Sears Holdings, and AT&T. Nathaly was the first student to graduate with a minor in Latino Media & Communication and is currently an account executive at Lapiz, working on the Kellogg’s account.
Sarah Pabis graduated Magna Cum Laude from DePaul in 2013 with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Advertising. While attending DePaul, Sarah studied advertising, participating in activities such as the Collegiate Effies and The OneShow Creative Bootcamp hosted by Leo Burnett. She also interned as the marketing manager of a local startup tech company Rootaxcess, primarily developing their marketing plan and helping to design their website. Upon graduation from DePaul, Sarah was awarded a Most Outstanding Student Achievement Award for her accomplishments both in and out of the classroom. After graduation, she was hired by Ogilvy & Mather Chicago to work for the newly formed Geometry Global, the world's largest activation agency. Sarah is currently working on their Shopper Promotions team in Account Management on three major CPG brands. She holds two additional positions as their Team Meeting Lead and New Vendor Lead.
Carly completed her BA in Public Relations and Advertising in 2014. While earning her degree, she held multiple marketing and communication internship positions with companies such as the Chicago Loop Alliance, Starcom MediaVest Group and FLIRT Communications. She also curated her own style blog throughout her time at DePaul and partnered with companies like Julep Nail Polish, Dogeared Jewelry, Office Depot, and Dasani. Carly started her full-time job the day after she graduated and now works as a Media Associate at Starcom MediaVest Group's Spark office. She works primarily on Spark's TV Investment team, negotiating with TV networks, executing media buys, and making media recommendations to her client, Dairy Queen. The knowledge and guidance from DePaul College of Communication professors gave Carly the confidence and skills she needed to jump right onto a big, national client fresh out of college.
Sarah Uchison graduated from DePaul in 2014 with degrees in Advertising, Spanish, and Latino Media & Communication (LM&C). Since then, her internship turned full-time position at multicultural marketing agency ElementoL2 as their junior copywriter has helped her perfect the craft of multicultural copy strategy and bilingual execution. Her agency experience has given her the opportunity to write copy for traditional, digital and experiential materials for clients like Coca-Cola, Target, Get Covered Illinois and Discover Card. Sarah is certain her Public Relations and Advertising experience at DePaul has helped her navigate the agency world and has enabled her to seamlessly collaborate with seasoned Marketing professionals. Thanks to her LM&C minor, her acquired knowledge of the Hispanic market has helped her succeed in and dominate the emerging world of multicultural marketing.
