Evie Psarras has a PhD in new media and communication from the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Using a feminist media perspective, her research speaks to the emerging and far-reaching socio-cultural shifts informed by new media technologies. She has focused expertise in critical/cultural studies with a particular interest in researching reality television, social media, self-branding and digital labor practices, celebrity culture and fandom. She utilizes participatory approaches to research like digital ethnography and in-depth interviewing, along with critical discourse, framing, content and visual analysis.
Evie also teaches introductory communication courses at Elmhurst College and UIC. These courses are focused on mass media, dyadic relationships, and public speaking and self-presentation.
When she is not researching and teaching she is honing her amateur photography skills and winning pop culture trivia contests.
