I've been a newswriter/producer at CBS 2 News (WBBM-TV) since 2004. What exactly does that mean? As a producer, I decide which stories to put in the show, how we're going to tell them (using video, graphics, sound bites, live shots with a reporter) and how long each story gets. I write scripts for anchors, edit video, and create graphics.
If you watched "The Newsroom" on HBO, I'm Mackenzie.
Before coming to CBS 2, I worked for three years at 10TV (WBNS-TV) in Columbus, Ohio and two years at NBC 33 (WISE-TV) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I also did three internships in Chicago (at ABC 7, WTTW, and CBS 2) while studying at DePaul.
I teach Writing For Broadcast (JOUR 330) and News Producing. I love sharing what I do with future journalists and helping them discover their career path. It also reminds me why I wanted to become a journalist and reignites my excitement for my job.
