John Brooks

​John Brooks is director of communications for Associated Colleges of Illinois, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for underserved students to attend one of 23 member colleges and universities. Since 2011, he has been an adjunct instructor at DePaul, teaching PRAD classes in writing, campaigns, research methods, and nonprofit communication. He also teaches public relations courses as an adjunct at Loyola University Chicago and Concordia University Chicago.
Previously, he was director of media relations and news for North Park University, Chicago, and served 12 years with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). There, he was associate executive director and director of the ELCA News Service for the national church organization based in Chicago. John was also a communication team leader, news writer and broadcast producer for the Louisiana State University (LSU) Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, and worked in several print and broadcast news organizations.
John is an accredited public relations professional (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America, and is a reviewer of public relations academic programs for PRSA certification.
John earned a Master of Arts in Journalism from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth.
