Lou Rutigliano

Lou Rutigliano was born and raised in Long Island, NY, received his master's and PhD in Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, and his BA in Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Rutigliano was a newspaper reporter in North Carolina (Rocky Mount), California (Los Angeles), and Texas (El Paso) for several years in between undergraduate and graduate school. His research focuses on the critical and cultural dimensions of networked media (which encompasses the interaction between mass, alternative, citizen, and other forms of media online and offline), and how this network shapes, and is shaped by, social, cultural, economic, and political factors. One research project currently underway is the relationship between media, the creative class, and urban culture in Detroit.
