Sarah M. (Engel) Herrera
BA, Communication (2009)

Sarah Herrera joins KVOA from Chicago, where she was heard on radio stations WBEZ, WCPT, and WILV. She was also seen weekends reporting traffic on CLTV and WGN. Sarah is a Chicago native, hailing from the West Rogers Park neighborhood. She started college at 16 and is a graduate of DePaul University. As part of her education, she spent five months in Budapest studying bathhouses, Hungarian, and getting acquainted with gypsy culture while traveling to some of the less visited parts of Europe. Sarah loves Tucson and enjoys exploring the unique nature of Arizona with her husband and rescue dog, Ellie.

Michelle Stoffel

BA, Journalism (2009)
Michelle Stoffel is a Chicago-based writer and editor specializing in real estate and personal finance. She has written for Yahoo and The Chicago Tribune, managed a housing blog for and created content for several Fortune 1000 companies.

Taylor B. Holt

Duluth News Tribune
WDIO/WIRT-DT (Duluth, MN) added Taylor Holt to its reporting staff. Holt earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from DePaul University in Chicago and interned at WGN-TV.

Paul E. Dinello
BA, Communication (1985)

Paul, now a Supervising Producer of CBS’s “Late Show,” is a longtime friend of (and collaborator with) new host Stephen Colbert.

Kirsten Verdun

BA, Communication & Media (2014)
Wisconsin head softball coach announced that she has hired Kirsten Verdun as the Badgers’ assistant coach. Verdun, a former graduate assistant Louisville, brings a new perspective to Madison after spending one year with the Cardinals. The Big East Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014, Verdun was named to the DePaul University Dean’s List eight consecutive quarters, the DePaul University Athletic Director’s honor roll every quarter and landed a spot on the Big East All-Academic team from 2011-2014. Verdun graduated from DePaul in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media with a minor in applied economics.

Jacob J. Berent

Jake Barrett joined the WAFF TV news team in August of 2015. Jake earned his B.A. in Media & Cinema Studies, and M.A. in Journalism, both from DePaul University in Chicago. Jake’s first TV job was at WAGM in Presque Isle, Maine.

Shellye Leggett joined the FOX28 News team in August of 2015 as a Multimedia Journalist. After graduating from North Park University, Shellye went on to pursue her Master of Arts degree in Journalism at DePaul University where she anchored and reported for the student run news program Good Day DePaul and reported for the student run news site "The Red Line Project."

Brian Miller

MA Journalism (2010)
Brian Miller was announced as the new preps editor of the Tallahassee Democrat and Miller, 35, is a veteran reporter with more than eight years of experience covering high school sports, as well as events such as NCAA and NIT basketball tournaments, minor league baseball and college football. Miller has lived in Tallahassee for 21 years and is familiar with the high school sports scene. He attended Tallahassee Community College and Florida State, where he earned a degree in sports management. After an initial stint freelancing with the Democrat from 2007 to 2009, Miller attended grad school in Chicago at DePaul University, where he received his masters in journalism. Miller worked in Illinois for three years with the Chicago Sun-Times and other media groups before returning to Tallahassee, where he has embraced delivering quality, in-depth coverage of the high school sports scene in the Big Bend. 

Nathan W. Greenhalgh

BA Communication (2006)
Nathan Greenhalgh received his first freelance writing assignment in 2005 and has worked as a reporter, freelance foreign correspondent and editor since 2006. Publications he has written for include "Foreign Policy," "The Christian Science Monitor," "Baltic Reports," "Baltic Times," "bthere," "Wisconsin State Journal" and "Reedsburg Times-Press." He has a bachelor's degree in communication from DePaul University.

Prabjot Randhaw


Journalism (2011)
Reporter P.J. Randhawa, joined the news team in St. Louis at KSDK Channel 5 in May. Randhawa, a DePaul University graduate, comes from WIS (Channel 10) in Columbia, South Carolina. Before that, she worked in South Dakota.

Heidi M. Wigdahl

BA Journalism (2010)
Heidi joined KARE 11 as a multimedia journalist in March 2015 after working for sister station WBIR in Knoxville, Tenn. She graduated from DePaul University where the College of Communication named her "Journalism Student of the Year." Heidi started her career at KTTC in Rochester, Minn. Heidi's work has received several awards, including two Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for Writing and Hard News and in 2015, the Tennessee Associated Press named her "Best TV Reporter."

Jennifer L. Schanz

BA, Journalism (2012)
Jenn Schanz, who joined the WIVB News 4 of team as a Reporter in March of 2015, comes to Buffalo from Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked as a Reporter for KLKN-TV. During her time at KLKN, Jenn received two Associated Press awards for her work in Feature and Spot News reporting. She’s also the recipient of a Nebraska Broadcasters Association Gold Award. In 2012, Jenn graduated Magna cum Laude from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. with a Bachelor of Communication degree in Journalism. While at DePaul, Jenn interned at the Chicago Tribune, WMAQ-TV, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Brooke Anderson

Brooke Anderson, former gubernatorial and then campaign communications director, has landed a new gig at Uber, the San Francisco-based company that connects riders to drivers via a mobile app. Anderson has been named communications lead/Midwest for Uber and will serve as a point person for Uber in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and a few other states in the region. Anderson is a Florida native who earned an undergraduate degree at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, where she played Division 1 basketball on a full scholarship. She earned a master's degree in journalism at DePaul University, worked at Serafin & Associates, a communications and strategy firm in Chicago, and oversaw media relations for former mayoral candidate Gery Chico in 2011.

Brooke Anderson has been recognized in Today's Chicago Woman Magazine's 100 Women to Watch and DePaul University's Alumni Stars Under 40. She is a Chicago-based communicator, strategist and Democratic consultant. From 2012 to January 2015, she served as Governor Pat Quinn's communications director, advising the Governor, wrangling the press and managing the state's response to emergencies from tornadoes to the pension crisis. Prior to that, she served as the Governor’s Press Secretary.

Robert G. Piper

"Meditation Muscle" by Robert Piper will be published by Attollo May 5. Piper examines basic meditation techniques as a means to improve one's well-being. Piper is a graduate of DePaul University who lives in Chicago.

Amanda J. Ladas

BA, Communication Studies (2002)
Dynamic Solutions International, LLC (DSI) a leading international provider of data storage solutions and comprehensive professional services, today announced the promotion of three top performers within the company’s leadership team. Amanda Ladas has been named vice president of marketing. In this role, she will be responsible for directing and implementing marketing strategies to expand DSI’s new IBM iSeries storage solutions. Ladas joined the DSI marketing department as a marketing coordinator in 2011. Prior to joining the DSI team, she was a medical secretary at a large healthcare company in Chicago. In 2012 Ladas completed a certification to become a wilderness first responder and educator for Leave No Trace. She has a BA in Communication from DePaul University in Chicago.

Scott L. Werba

BA, Public Relations & Advertising (2013)

As part of Ask the Expert Day at West Leyden High School, Scott Werba (West Leyden class of 2009) spoke in the auditorium to about 150 students. Werba, having tested high in writing, an academic adviser at DePaul University recommended he go into advertising. After he graduated, he paid his rent with bartending and being a waiter while doing three unpaid internships at advertising agencies. While he liked the work, no one hired him. Werba has since performed at Zanies, Laugh Factory and other venues across Chicago. The students laugh when he describes his career trajectory.

Katherine A. Harry

BA, Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising (2013)
Katherine Harry played at DePaul from 2009-12. She holds the McGrath-Phillips Arena single game record for most rebounds with 20 and is tied for first in blocked shots with five. She led DePaul in blocked shots in her last three seasons and in rebounding her final two seasons. She is the only player in DePaul women’s basketball history to score 1,100 points, grab more than 1,150 rebounds, and notch at least 140 blocked shots in a career.

Carmen M. Schuette

BA, Communication Studies (2007)
Cork Tree Creative, Inc. recently welcomed Carmen Schuette. With a strong background as an experienced designer, she will assist Cork Tree with graphic design, photography and videography. Schuette received her bachelor's degree in communication from DePaul University, and an extension of her bachelor's degree in fine arts in photography from Columbia College.

Esmeralda Leon

Esmeralda Leon will be joining WGN AM 720 as a traffic reporter on the Tribune Media news/talk station. Leon, who starts on the show Tuesday, will replace Leslie Keiling as the voice of afternoon traffic. Both worked for Radiate Media, which provides traffic services to WGN. A Joliet native who studied communication at DePaul University, Leon began her career as an intern and program assistant for Jonathon Brandmeier’s former morning show at WLUP FM 97.9. She joined Radiate Media as a traffic editor and reporter in 2013.

Terence D. Greene

Terence Green joins the Class of 2015 Greater Flint Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame. Terence Greene, who went to Flint Central High School in 1985, starring in basketball and football. He later went to DePaul University to play basketball, and is now in the DePaul Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bobby Simmons

BA, Communication and Media (2014)

After playing in the NBA for ten years, Bobby Simmons earned his degree in marketing and advertising from DePaul University last year. On Thursday, he joined Phil Heath, four-time Mr. Olympia champion bodybuilder and owner of a nutritional products business on the sports business panel hosted by The Shadow League. Simmons shared marketing and advertising nuggets of wisdom that he has garnered from being an athlete as well as in class.
