Degree Completion Options

Comprehensive Exam​
Students complete a three-part comprehensive exam based on questions derived from a minimum of one core course (MCS 501, MCS 502, and/or MCS 504) and two additional courses pulled from the remaining core courses or MCS critical studies electives.

Master's Project​
One project course (MCS 599) replaces an MCS elective class, becoming the 12th and final course taken in the program​. The student will create an original project (i.e., web- or film-based projects, or projects related to professional or educational organizations) and a 30- to 40-page accompanying written report/analysis.

Master's Thesis​​
One thesis course (MCS 599) replaces an MCS elective class, becoming the 12th and final course taken in the program. The student will produce a written piece of original academic scholarship on a subject of the student's choosing.
