— Vision 2012

The study of communication is essential for strengthening a democratic society and for enhancing the interpersonal, organizational, mediated, intercultural and cross-cultural understanding required to compete in a global workplace. Our mission is to provide substantive knowledge and meaningful learning experiences in all realms of communication. We equip students with the necessary critical and practical skills to traverse emerging interactive environments, to participate as fully-engaged citizens, and to succeed in the twenty-first century workplace.

We prepare our students to be critical thinkers—gaining the qualities of independence and objectivity, of discernment and judgment, which are so important to successful communication in work and in life. We train students to effectively manage information and hone their writing and oral communication competencies. We share our knowledge and expertise with the broader local and international community, advancing DePaul University’s social mission. We strive for students to be ethically and socially responsible citizens, future leaders and engaged alumni. We promote our college as a model of diversity, serving a diverse student body and emphasizing issues of multiculturalism and diversity in our programs.
