This week Governor Bruce Rauner announced the winners of the 2016 Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Awards, including DePaul's Jessica Villagomez. The organization honored Villagomez, a senior and editor-in-chief of DePaul's student newspaper, The DePaulia, during the 42nd annual Student Laureate Convocation on Nov. 12 in Springfield.
Presented each year by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois, the award program highlights student excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to one student from each of Illinois' four-year colleges and universities. In addition to a Student Laureate Medallion and certificate of achievement, each student receives a $1,000 educational grant.
