. The article, "The End of Saks Fifth Avenue as We Knew It"
, examines the economic and societal forces that have led to Saks's recent buyout by Canadian retailer Hudson's Bay.
Merrick, an 11-year veteran reporter for The Wall Street Journal
(based at their bureau here in Chicago) reported on retail for about seven years. The New Yorker
piece, her first for the publication, is currently tracking as one of the magazine's "most popular" and "most e-mailed" new articles as of this writing. Congratulations, Amy!
