Incoming PRAD Professor's Paper Earns Top Honor at ICA

Incoming Public Relations and Advertising Assistant Professor Maria De Moya (formerly on faculty at North Carolina State University), has  co-authored a Top Faculty Paper for the Public Relations Division of the International Communication Association (ICA)'s 63rd annual meeting, which was held in London, England, on June 17-21.

De Moya's paper, "Empowerment as a Key Construct for Understanding Public Relations' Potential for Community Building," was co-authored with Moonhee Cho (University of South Florida).

De Moya and Cho's paper proposes and explains how the construct of empowerment can be incorporated into public relations scholarship and practice, to inform community-building efforts. Incorporating relevant literature from public relations, community sciences and sociology, the importance and applicability of the construct is detailed, and specific means for implementing and evaluating community empowerment are presented.

We would like to congratulate Prof. De Moya and welcome her to our faculty, which she will be joining at the start of the new academic year this autumn.
