Visiting Professors Gain Working Knowledge

College of Communication Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) Professors Kelly Chu and Matt Ragas have been selected to participate in programs for visiting professors this summer.

Chu will be spending two weeks as a Visiting Professor with the Advertising Educational Foundation (AEF).

“Today’s advertising world is changing quickly, with increasing use of newly emerging forms of advertising especially using social media," Chu said. "Professors wishing to stay current of the latest trends in the current media environments can learn from interactions with industry professionals in advertising agencies.

"Participating in the AEF’s Visiting Professor Program will enhance my understanding of contemporary advertising and its role in culture, society and the economy, and I will be able to transfer my knowledge into the classroom.”

Ragas has been selected as a 2012 Educator Fellow with the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations, through the University of Alabama. He'll be spending two weeks with Discover Financial Services in Riverwoods, Illinois.

"The fellowship is an exchange of knowledge between the educator and the host organization," Ragas said, "designed to strengthen the relationship between the academy and professionals regarding public relations education and practice."

Both Professors Chu and Ragas will bring back to the DePaul the sort of practical, real-world information and instruction the college stresses for our students in the classroom.
