Newly Admitted Graduate Students

Next Steps for International Students

1. Submit required documentation to obtain I-20 or DS-2019 (F-1 and J-1 Students)

Newly admitted international students who require an F-1 or J-1 visa to study in the United States must complete the Financial Affidavit of Support form and provide original bank documents showing financial ability to cover educational and living expenses (minimum requirements are indicated on the form). You must also include a copy of the ID page in your passport with the form.

For more information on immigration status and to obtain the financial affidavit form please visit the International Programs Web site.

In addition to the financial documentation listed above, international students already in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa will be required to complete the Transfer Release form and submit a copy of their passport ID page, current visa page and a copy of their current or previous I-20.

All documents should be sent to the graduate admission office at:
DePaul University
College of Communication
Office of Graduate Admission
990 W Fullerton Avenue, Suite 1600
Chicago, IL 60614

Please note: You will receive an e-mail from the office of graduate admission listing the specific documents you will need to submit in order to obtain your I-20 or DS-2019.

2. Review international student office pre-arrival information

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) pre-arrival information provides important preparation details for your arrival in the U.S. It contains information about the OISS, obtaining your visa, orientation (mandatory), course registration, financial matters, housing, and immunization requirements. Please be sure to read the entire document.

For information on financial aid, tuition and payment plan options, please visit the Office of Financial Aid Web site.

3. Complete Intent to Register form

You will submit the Intent to Register form after you have received your I-20 and obtained your visa. Submitting this form notifies the College of Communication that you intend to enroll at DePaul for the quarter stated in your acceptance letter. When we receive your “Intent to Register,” your student record will be activated and you will receive a confirmation e¬-mail from the office of graduate admission.

Please note: International students will not be eligible to register for classes until they have checked in with DePaul’s Office for International Students and Scholars upon arrival in the U.S.

4. Log in to Campus Connection

Campus Connection is DePaul’s online portal for admitted and enrolled students. Campus Connection requires a user ID and password and allows you to view the course catalog, class schedules and program newsletters. You also may register for classes (once you have checked in with OISS) and make payments to your student accounts online.

To get started, go to Campus Connection and login with your user ID and initial password located at the bottom of your acceptance letter. If you have misplaced or discarded that letter, you may also may obtain your user ID and password by contacting the Help Desk at (312) 362-8765.

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) will host a new student orientation that covers important information regarding your F-1 and/or J-1 non-immigrant student visa status especially as it relates to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

If you have been issued a SEVIS I-20 Form and/or a SEVIS DS-2019 Form, you must attend the OISS new student orientation. The OISS orientation is mandatory for all international students who are new to DePaul University (this includes students transferring from another U.S. university). Remember that this orientation is different and separate from the orientation you may be required to attend by your academic department. If you've been admitted to the fall 2009 term, you will receive an electronic invitation during the summer months.
