"We take the absolutely familiar, the unprecedented amount of communication in our lives today, and teach students to think critically about it. How are they influenced by others’ communications? What are the dynamics of communication above and beyond content? We guarantee that, no matter what their major, our students become capable, reflective, knowledgeable, and effective communicators."
- JACQUELINE TAYLOR, DEAN, COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION
Communication is the art and science of creating and sharing meaning. At the College of Communication, you’ll master the techniques for crafting and delivering messages across a variety of platforms: face to face, print, audio, video, Web and the rapidly evolving world of social media. You’ll learn from professors who have many years of experience in some of the biggest media markets in the nation. Specialize in the field that interests you most: journalism, radio, TV, and film; relational, organizational, and small group communication; political and social discourse; or public relations and advertising. You’ll gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art facilities, through our award-winning radio station and newspaper, and through a wide range of internships and community projects.
Extraordinary "extra" activities
Students gain experience producing an award-winning newspaper, The DePaulia, and a 24/5 radio station, WRDP. They learn from area professionals through chapters of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the American Advertising Federation, and the Film Arts Alliance, as well as an active public debate program. Finally, students may study both current and historic practice by monitoring Chicago's media market and visiting sites like the Museum of Broadcast Communication, the Center for New Television, and the Chicago Film Center.
